A pair of Twin Valley League teams took to the basketball court one final time before the mid-season league tournament that starts on Saturday and the B&B Falcons and Valley Heights Mustangs put on a show in Baileyville in the girls and boys double-header. It was a split on the night as B&B Lady Falcons handed Valley Heights their first loss of the season with a 33-32 win, while Valley Heights boys notched the 50-45 win over B&B.

It was a crazy game to start the night between the girl’s teams as B&B worked out to a 12-9 lead after the first quarter. The Falcons stretched the lead by one-point going into the half leading 19-15 at intermission, behind limiting Valley Heights to one shot on offense and the Falcons strong rebounding presence on the defensive and offensive side of the ball. Falcons went on in the game to win the rebound margin 38-26 over the Mustangs.

The Mustangs did make surges and took lead multiple times in the second half, causing B&B to have to battle back. In the final seconds of the game Cassidy Hulsing for B&B was fouled with the game tied, giving her a pair of free throws in which she split giving B&B the one-point lead. But with time remaining Valley Heights pushed the ball up the court got a look from 15-feet but came up short to send B&B to the 33-32 win at home.

Falcons were led by Laura Sudbeck and Katie Huerter who each had seven points, helping the Falcons to a 7-1 record. While Valley Heights was led by Brandi Jo Roepke with her nine points but they suffered their first loss of the season falling to 8-1 on the year.

The boys competition started off close and ended close but the middle, especially the second quarter was controlled by Valley Heights who trailed B&B 14-12 after the first period, but used a 20-5 second quarter to take a 32-19 lead into halftime.

After a low scoring third quarter by both teams B&B started their comeback despite foul trouble in the fourth quarter. The Falcons oustcored the Mustangs 20-11 in the fourth and final frame of the night but came up short in the end falling 50-45.

With the win Valley Heights improves to 8-1 on the year led by Gage Woodyard and Elijah Smith who each had 14 points, while Charles Musil chipped in 10 points.

B&B was led by Luke Holthaus who tallied 15 points, while Dustin Rottinghaus added 12 points as the Falcons fell to 5-3 on the season.

Both teams turn their attention to the Twin Valley League tournament starting this Saturday at Washington County High School.
