Maur Hill Mount Academy and Kansas City Christian have met plenty of times before, but this time was different. The Ravens took a break from Northeast Kansas League play and focused on the Panthers who used to be in the Delaware Valley League.

Though league standings wouldn’t be affected for Maur Hill Mount Academy, the Lady Ravens went into the game with a 4-4 record and wanted to get past the .500 mark. MH-MA started slow and didn’t get a bucket until late in the first quarter when sophomore Carly Taylor drilled a three-point shot. That was the lone made jumper in the first quarter, but the Lady Ravens would score 13 points in the second to go into halftime with a 22-6 lead. Kansas City Christian bounced back in the third to only trail by six, but Maur Hill Mount Academy slammed the door shut on any chance of a comeback by sinking free throws to win 37-20.

MH-MA was led by sophomore Kaitlyn Miller who finished with nine points to be the Bank of Atchison Player of the Game. Junior Kendra Brull and sophomore Avery Lewman chipped in eight points apiece. KCC junior Holly Spencer led the Lady Panthers with 12 points off the bench.

Maur Hill Mount Academy improved to 5-4 on the season while Kansas City Christian fell to 2-6.

In boys play, Maur Hill Mount Academy jumped all over Kansas City Christian to lead 32-8 at the break. The Panthers didn’t give up though as they started the third quarter on a 13-2 run. The deficit was cut to 18 going into the final quarter. KCC would dice the deficit to as low as eight points, but the Ravens nailed key free throws to win 55-42.

Three players were in double figures for MH-MA with junior Dillon Kramer leading the way with 21. Junior Jake Schmidt’s defense, rebounding and 18 points made him the Bank of Atchison Player of the Game. Freshman Nick Caudle scored 10 points off the bench.

Only three players scored for Kansas City Christian. Senior Colson Bayles had a terrific game for the Panthers, finishing with 24 points. Senior Mitchel Pivovar had 10 while junior Luke Streeter scored eight off the bench.

Maur Hill Mount Academy went to 7-2 on the season and plays at Pleasant Ridge on Friday while Kansas City Christian fell to 1-8 and travels to Valley Falls.
