Troy Trojans Sweep Onaga Buffalos On Their Home Court

Looking for some momentum headed into the Twin Valley League tournament this coming it was one of the newest TVL members in the Troy Trojans hosting the Onaga Buffalos last night and notching the sweep on the evening. Troy ladies picked up the 61-35 win and boys held on for the 52-48 win over Onaga.

The night started off with the Troy Trojan ladies blistering hot from the floor as they quickly doubled up Onaga after the first quarter leading 19-8 and lead 41-22 at the half behind a 23-13 second quarter and eight three-pointers in the first half. Trojans went on to win the contest 61-35.

Trojans continued to shot well in the second half but cooled off from their blistering hot pace, but continued to force turnovers by Onaga and that resulted in multiple extra opportunities for Troy against the Buffalos, as Onaga compiled 20-plus turnovers on the night.

Troy finished the night shooting 43% from three-point land, hitting 10-23 three-pointers with Alanie Stock leading the charge with 19 points on the night earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Alex Winder chipped in 16 points, including four trifectas on the night, while Baileigh Jenkins and Josie Smith each scored seven points. Troy with the win moves to 4-5 on the season and 3-3 in TVL action.

Onaga in the loss only had four players tally points on the night as Jocelyn Marten lead the team with 14 points, while Rebekah Glessner added 13 points. With the loss Onaga falls to 2-6 on the year and 1-3 in TVL play.

The boy’s game proved to be a tight one as the Troy Trojans snapped the Onaga Buffalos five-game winning streak with the 52-48 win.

It was a jostle for the lead and control early in the game and ultimately Troy held the 17-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter behind desperation bank-shot three at the buzzer and Tory never relinquished the lead after that. Trojans lead by four at the half and increased that lead to seven after three frames but Onaga didnt go away quietly.

Buffalos fought back and down by 12 points at one point in the fourth quarter ultimately cut the lead to one in the final seconds. After Troy miss fired on a pair of free throws Onaga had a shot to win the game but came up short and Troy Trojan, Jake Ross hit a pair of free throws to seal the win.

Ross finished the night with 11 points for Troy, while Tristan Speer lead Troy with 15 points, including five three-pointers as Troy went 7-11 from distance as team. Senior, William Boeh added double figures with 14 points, including eight of which were in the fourth quarter earning him the Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA. Troy snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 6-3 on the season with the win and 3-3 in the TVL.

Onaga with the loss fell to 6-2 on the year and 3-1 in the TVL and was led by Wyatt Cordell who tallied 14 points on the night, while Mitchell Duer chipped in 10 points.

The Troy Trojans on the night earned the sweep in the TVL twinbill to gain some momentum headed into the TVL tournament this coming weekend, which both teams turn their sights, too now.
