It may be the final week of high school athletics before the holiday break, but it was also rivalry week. ACCHS and Atchison met on a rare Thursday night with both teams trying to take bragging rights.

In lady competition, the ACCHS Lady Tigers clawed their way to a narrow 22-18 lead at the break. ACCHS increased that lead to nine after the third quarter. The Atchison Lady Red were in striking distance all throughout the fourth quarter, but the Lady Tigers pounced on the opportunity to seal the victory to win 55-44.

The Bank of Atchison Player of the Game was ACCHS junior Lillie Holtgrave. She finished with 17 points and made a huge three to give ACCHS full momentum late in the fourth. Seniors Leah Scholz and Taylor Vandeloo helped the team scoring 12 points apiece.

Leading all scorers was Atchison senior Arika Smith. The sensational scorer started the game with 11 straight points and finished with 28 points. Senior Ashton Ettleman added 10 points for the Lady Red.

ACCHS snapped its three-game losing skid and improved to 2-3 on the season. Atchison lost its second-straight game and fell to 1-3.

The boys matchup saw one team completely dominate from the start. Atchison wasted no time putting points on the board and starting the game with 11 straight points. From then on, the Redmen cruised to a 62-10 halftime lead. Toward the end of the game, Atchison fans and students continued to jump up and down as the Redmen crept toward the 100-point mark, but fell just shy of that feat, winning 98-25.

Atchison senior Tanner Huntington paced the Redmen with 22 points to be the Bank of Atchison Player of the Game. Sophomore Jerome Luster Jr. and junior Marcus Denton finished with 15 points, junior Jerel Rawls had 12 while sophomore Wykeen Gill Jr. chipped in 11. The Redmen used a barrage a threes to dominate the game as Atchison made 11 on the night.
