Three Area Coaches & 23 Athletes Earn All State Volleyball Honors by KVA

The postseason season honors continue to roll in for area athletes and coaches as the Kansas Volleyball Association has announced the All-State honorees for each class, along with Player of the Year and Coach of the Year honors.

Twenty-three area volleyball athletes earned All-State honors, while two area players and three area coaches earned Player of the Year and Coach of the Year honors.

Leading the way of course was a pair of Twin Valley League teams in Class 1A-Division I and II in the state champion, Centralia Panthers and B&B Falcons.

For Centralia, senior, Kaitlyn Koch capped off their stellar Panther volleyball career by winning the state title with her team, as the Panthers finished 38-6 this year and 1A-DI state champs, but also earned Player of the Year honors in 1A-DI leading lead her team this season. For the third straight year she was named to the All-State team and for the second straight year was selected to the first team.

This year a trio of Panther juniors join Koch on the All-State honors in Class 1A-DI as Liz Hasekamp, Katy Haufler and Amaris Jones earn the honors at libero, setter and outside hitter spots, respectively. Their head coach, Kimbrook Tennal took home the Coach of the Year honors for leading his team to the state title, the school's 11th volleyball title.

Class 1A-DII has been dominated that last two years by the B&B Falcons and this year was no different as they three-peated at state champs in the final year of the school, establishing a new single season mark for wins in the process finishing 42-3. Leading the charge was a strong senior core this season for the Falcons and last year’s Player of the Year, Laura Sudbeck took home that honor for the second straight year, on top of being named first team All-State for the third straight year and named to All-State team all four years of her high school career.

Joining, Sudbeck with first team honors this year is fellow seniors, Katie Huerter and Ashley Kramer who both repeated as first team All-Stater's this year. Senior, Cassidy Hulsing registered second team All-State honors and senior, Jenny Deters earned honorable mention honors. B&B Falcon coach, Jessica Koch took hom the Coach of the Year honors for the third straight year.

Axtell Eagle junior, Ashley Buessing also earned All-State honors in 1A-Division II picking up honorable mention honors after helping Axtell to a 18-19 record this season.

Class 2A the Jefferson County North Chargers capped off a stellar season as state runner-ups and three of their key players from their 37-10 team earned All-State honors. Senior duo of Jamie Navinskey and Jacee Kramer earned All-State first team at outside hitter, while fellow senior, Heather Polson notched second team honors.

Washington County and Immaculata each saw a girl notch All-State honors in 2A, also. For the Tigers junior, Erin Alexander earned second team honors after her team finished the year 30-8. While, Immaculata Raider junior, Grace Parker earned honorable mention at the libero spot after the Raiders went 19-14 this past season.

In 3A the Marysville Bulldogs took home third place at the state tournament this season under Coach Jayson Tynon and saw three gals earn All-State honors after their 34-14 season. Senior, Abi Degenhardt earned first team honors at the outside hitter spot, while senior, Tristin Weeks took home second team honors at outsid hitter and junior, Chloe Cudney earned honorable mention at setter.

Class 4A-Division II the Santa Fe Trail Chargers capped off a 39-5 season with a state championship and their head coach, Joy Schmidt earned Coach of the Year honors in the process. Four girls earned All-State honors with seniors, Shelby Dahl and Jaeden Romine both notching first teams honors, while Jessica Abendorth took home second team honors and Megan Zaldivar registered honorable mention honors.

Jeff West Tiger, Olivia Brees also earned All-State honors in 4A-DII notching second team honors after helping the Tigers to a 24-17 record this season and appearance at the state tournament.

It was another stellar season on the volleyball court for area teams with success abounding as teams and individual honors, also.
