In the final regular season tournament action teams were looking to find some momentum as the regular season is coming to a close and postseason play is on the horizon.

Seven area teams hit the court in Sabetha on Saturday as part of the Sabetha volleyball invitational, along with three other teams to make 10 teams, splitting into two pools of five to decide who would make the bracket play.

After pool play was in the books it was Marysville and Wamego both going 4-0 to win their pools and Holton and Concordia going 3-1 to take second in their pools moving those four teams to the bracket play of the Sabetha Invite.

Wamego took on Concordia in one semifinal, while Marysville played Holton in the other and both were decided in straight sets. Wamego grabbed a 25-21, 25-21 straight set win and Marysville picked up the 25-22, 25-14 win.

That put the two unbeaten teams on the day into the championship match and the Bulldogs of Marysville came out on top in three sets over a tough Wamego team. Marysville fell in set one 25-20 to Wamego, but came back and won the next two sets 26-24 and 25-22 to win the Sabetha Invite.

The third place match needed three sets to decide the winner also on the day as the Holton Wildcats capped off their regular season with a win to beat Concordia for third place at the Sabetha Invite. Wildcats lost set one 25-15, but responded and won the next set 28-26 and then won the third set 25-21.

For the other five area teams they all competed in pool play action on the day. In the Pool "A" action Marysville went 4-0 to win the pool with straight set wins over Concordia and ACCHS, while they needed three sets to beat Sabetha and Hiawatha. Concordia took second in the pool, while Sabetha took third with a 2-2 record on the day with straight set wins over ACCHS and Hiawatha on the day. The Red Hawks were fourth in the pool going 1-3, with their lone win over ACCHS coming in straight sets. The ACCHS Tigers struggled on the day going 0-4.

In Pool "B" it was Wamego winning the pool with a 4-0 record, while Holton was 3-1 with wins over Nemaha Valley, Highland Park and Pleasant Ridge all in straight sets. The Raiders of Nemaha Valley finished third in the pool with a 2-2 day, notching a three set win over Pleasant Ridge and a forfeit win over Highland Park, while Pleasant was 1-3 with a forfeit win over Highland Park.

For some teams the tournament action wrapped up their regular season and they will start to prepare for sub-state action on next Saturday, October 26th, while others will wrap up their regular season action this coming Tuesday.
