It was the final regular season cross country meet for Northeast Kansas League members and it couldn’t have been any closer. Pleasant Ridge and Jefferson County North battled throughout both the boys and girls races, but only one could end up the winner.

In girls competition, Kristina Silvers of Pleasant Ridge beat Jefferson County North’s Carissa McAfee by two seconds for first place with a time of 17:26.00. The Lady Rams took the NEKL crown with other top performers. Hailey Worthington placed fourth (18:20.00), Carly Simonis, Rachel Hattok, Skylar Ling and Syvannah finished in the top 14.

Laramie Leakey of JCN placed fifth (18:24.00) while Abbie Weishaar and Julie Schrick took eighth and ninth place respectively. Jackson Heights’ Kaitlynn Little placed third and Alexis Rieschick finished 12th. Horton’s Erin Cairo also placed 13th. McLouth's Emily Hoffhines placed 16th and Oskaloosa's Ashley Nelson finished 18th.

On the boys side, Pleasant Ridge’s Tony Weber placed first, but the Rams were just inches away from the first-place Jefferson County North Chargers. JCN’s Devon Wilson and Brysen Weishaar led the charge. Ted Sharp, Ty Brickell, Spencer Hubbard, Thomas Steichen and Tyler Nolting all placed in the top 16.

To go with Tony Weber’s performance, Tyler Darrow and Gabe Younger ran well, placing fifth and sixth. Noah Tattershall finished 12th and Reid Herken placed 17th. Other top performers include Seth Holliday (fourth place) from Jackson Heights, Reed Lobdell (eighth place) of Horton, Jordan Butler (15th) and Zach Whaley (20th) of Oskaloosa and Ryan Bristol (11th), Logan Hoobler (18th) and Tristan Funk (19th) from McLouth.
