The Chargers of Jefferson County North stepped out of the area volleyball tournaments this past Saturday and into a competition against 4A and 5A schools at the DeSoto Invitational and took home a sixth place finish in the competition behind a 3-3 record on the day.

The Chargers worked themselves through pool play with a 2-1 record notching straight set wins over Tonganoxie (25-15, 25-20) and the fourth ranked Class 4A-Division II team, Frontenac (25-13, 25-20), with their loss coming against 5A school Leavenworth with the first set pushed to the limit (27-25, 25-17).

With their 2-1 record in pool play they were matched up against Baldwin in the first round of bracket play and Baldwin got the best of them in straight sets 25-14, 25-15, sending the Chargers to the consolation bracket. Looking to respond the Chargers did just that dispatching Basehor-Linwood in a tough two set contest capturing the win (25-22, 25-23) for the right to play for fifth place at the tournament. In the fifth place match the Chargers squared off with the seventh ranked Class 4A-Division I team in Wamego. Wamego held off JCN in the first set 25-22 and took set two 25-13 for the win sending the Chargers to a sixth place finish and 3-3 record on the day.

With the 3-3 record against tough 4A and 5A competition in their final regular season tournament action of the year the Chargers moved to 27-8 on the season and now have a pair of league Triangulars head of them before postseason play. The Chargers took the opportunity late in the season to take on opponents two to three classifications higher than them to prepare for the final stretch of the season and Sub-State action on the horizon on October 26th.
