Five area teams, along with five others took the court for volleyball action on Saturday (October 12th) at the Marysville Invitational looking to continue to find some momentum as they head down the final stretch of regular season and prepare for postseason play.

Highlighting the area performances on the day was the host school themselves the Marysville Bulldogs who capped off their day 5-1 taking home second place. Bulldogs breezed through pool play with a 4-0 record beating Southern Cloud (25-11, 25-15), Word of Life (25-10, 25-13), Washington County (25-15, 25-22) and Valley Heights (25-9, 25-17). In the Semifinals it was the Bulldogs taking care of Concordia in straight sets (25-15, 25-7) to move to the championship game, were they faced off against Riley County. Both teams were unbeaten on the day and Riley County sent Marysville to their first loss of the day in the championship game winning in three sets (25-23, 11-25, 26-24).

A team from the Twin Valley League in Washington County had the second best performance of the day taking home third place by topping Concordia in the third place contest; winning straight sets (25-23, 25-17). Tigers fell in the Semifinals to Riley County (25-23, 25-14), while they went 3-1 in pool play with their lone loss coming to Marysville in pool play. Tigers beat Southern Cloud (25-10, 25-10), Valley Heights (25-15, 25-17) and Word of Life (25-3, 25-5).

Nemaha Valley, Sabetha and Valley Heights also competed at the Marysville Invite all compiling 2-2 records on the day’s action in pool play. For the Raiders they notched wins over Republic County (19-25, 25-11, 25-16) and Concordia (26-28, 25-23, 25-17) both in three sets. The Bluejays took home wins over Nemaha Valley (20-25, 25-17, 25-18) in three sets and a two set win over Concordia (25-17, 25-21). Mustangs of Valley Heights earned wins over Southern Cloud (25-13, 25-7) and Word of Life (25-16, 25-5) both in straight sets.

All the teams turn their attention to league matchups this week and then their final tournament action in the coming weekend before the Sub-State tournaments on October 26th.
