(KTNC) -  After a slow start, the Peru State offense came to life in the second half and the Bobcats rolled to a 24-7 victory over Avila University Saturday afternoon in a Heart of America Athletic Conference football game played at Jug Brown Stadium in Falls City.
The defenses dominated the first two quarters.  The only score coming when an Avila defender intercepted a Peru State pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown midway through the second quarter to stake the Eagles to a 7-0 halftime lead.
That lead didn’t last long in the second half.
Peru State quarterback Tyler Audsley capped a 93-yard drive on the ‘Cats opening possession of the half with a 61-yard touchdown run to tie the score at 7-all.
Peru State took the lead with 13:35 left in the game on a 27-yard Greg Conry field goal.  They added two more touchdowns, one on a 20-yard pass from Audlsey to J.D. Faxon before Audsley capped the scoring with a 27-yard touchdown run with 9:20 left in the game.
The Bobcat defense turned in a dominant performance.  They held Avila to 172 total yards and forced four turnovers.
Peru State’s offense finished with 357 total yards, including 210 yards rushing.  Audsley led the way with 130 yards rushing on 18 carries and two touchdowns.  He also completed 14-of-23 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown.
Peru State is now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the HAAC.  The ‘Cats travel to Olathe, Kansas Saturday to take on MidAmerica Nazarene University, which is 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference after a loss to Baker University Saturday.
