Six Teams Ranked in Third Kansas High School Cross Country Polls

Teams have started to fully get into the groove of the season with multiple meets under their belt in the cross country season and the latest rankings have been released in Kansas with six teams in the top seven of their classification and three receiving votes.

Class 1A houses a pair of ranked teams including the highest ranked area team in the Frankfort Wildcat boys who continue to check in at third in the 1A boys rankings. Wildcats recently tied for first place team performance with Rock Creek at the Jason McKinney Invite in Wabaunsee, with Adam Koch taking home an individual first place performance.

In the girls poll the Axtell Eagle girls continue to be ranked staying put at number four in the latest poll after a competing in the Nemaha Valley Invite recently having three girls grab top 25 finishes. The Axtell Eagle boys fell out of the rankings this week, but are still receiving votes just on the outside looking in to the 1A top seven. Eagle boys recently finished eighth as a team at the Nemaha Valley Invite, while Tracy Schmitz highlighted the day with a first place performance in the competition, last Thursday.

Class 2A the lady Chargers of Jefferson County North continue to be ranked but fell from number three to a tie for seventh in the latest rankings. Chargers recently competed in the Troy Invite and took home a first place team finish behind six top 10 finishers, including Carissa McAfee who won the competition and Laramie Leakey who followed with a second place finish.

The Charger boys continue to linger in the receiving vote’s category of the boys 2A poll, after taking second place team finish at the Troy Invite last week behind three top 10 finishes.

In Class 3A the girl’s poll continues to house two area teams as the Pleasant Ridge Rams and Sabetha Bluejays both remained ranked this week but slipped down in the polls. The Rams moved down one spot to number four this week, after competing at Rim Rock over the weekend. While, Sabetha moved down two spots to number six, but enjoyed a great week last week winning the team title at the Royal Valley Invite.

The Sabetha Bluejay boys jumped back into the latest rankings after falling out last week they are tied for seventh this week, after winning the team title at the Royal Valley Invite this past weekend.

Hiawatha boys jumped into the receiving vote’s category in the 3A boy’s poll, after winning the Nemaha Valley Invite this past weekend alongside their girls team that also won a team title at the Nemaha Valley Invite.

Teams and runners continue to focus on the season ahead but will surely have their sights on the cross country regionals announcement by KSHSAA that is expected to be announced sometime this week.
