It was a battle in the Big Seven league on Friday night (September 28th) in Seneca between a pair of 2-1 teams entering the matchup as the Nemaha Valley Raiders hosted the Perry Lecompton Kaws who were on the road for the third time in the first four weeks of action. In a game that featured eight turnovers it was the Raiders capitalizing upon the Kaws turnovers better and forcing the Kaws into turnovers at bad spots for Perry that earned Nemaha Valley the 24-9 win.

Week four for the Raiders at home started off almost a mirror image of week one at home against McLouth as Nemaha Valley's opponent took the ball first and the Raiders forced a turnover with senior, Caleb Meyer intercepting a Kaws pass, setting up the Raiders deep in Kaw territory to have their first offensive touch. On offense just like against McLouth the Raiders handed the ball off to Devin Henry, who took it 40-yards into the endzone scoring on the Raiders first play from scrimmage.

That's where the similarities stop between week one and week four for the Raiders as Perry Lecompton answered with their own scoring drive on a 60-yard catch and run by Brandon Eddy from Seth Surface, but the Kaws missed the extra point and were down 7-6 and that was the close they would ever get to the Raiders the rest of the way.

Both teams traded turnovers in the first half, but the Raiders added points off those turnovers from Perry Lecompton as Meyer tossed a 20-yard pass to Zach Bradley who dinked and dunked his Meyer added a five-yard touchdown run in the first half, also.

For the Kaws they saw the offense move the ball with the passing game but ultimately only got a 26-yard field goal for points before the half, as Nemaha Valley lead 21-9 at the half.

The turnover trend continued in the second half as Henry fumbled for the second time for the Raiders and Meyer tossed an interception, but the Kaws threw two more interceptions in the second half and both came in the redzone.

Raiders went on to add a 27-yard field by Matt Haverkamp, making it 24-9 in favor of Nemaha Valley.

Meyer lead the Raiders, despite his two turnovers posted around 90 yards passing and touchdown passing and rushing on offense, while accounting for three of the four interceptions on defense for Nemaha Valley on the night. Caleb's performance earned him the Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA broadcast.

Henry added 108 yards on the ground on 12 carries with a touchdown, but did have a pair of fumbles. For the Kaws it was Surface at quarterback leading the way as he was 14-25 for 165 yards with a touchdown and four interceptions.

Despite the turnovers the Raiders found a way to come up with turnovers on the Kaws at the right time throughout the contest and take advantage to grab their third win of the season improving to 3-1 on the season. Raiders now set up for a tough showdown against Hiawatha on the road next week. The Kaws with the loss fell to 2-2 on the season and turns their attention to Holton who comes to Perry home field next week.
