Riverside 34 - Troy 6              September 27th, 2013

Who knows when these two teams, seperated by only nine miles, will meet again.  However, in week four non-league action on Friday, Riverside left little doubt that they have county bragging rights after rolling to a 4-0 record and third straight victory against their rival Trojans, on Troy's home field.  Troy had six turnovers and many other dropped passes and costly mistakes that gave them little chance for success before falling to 2-2.

Riverside went 70 yards on 10 plays to start the game and Drew Hoffman scored on a three-yard run to cap the drive, that included a screen pass to convert on 3rd down and 12.  The scored stayed 8-0 after Troy marched downfield but turned the ball over on downs at the Cyclone 8 yard-line.  Both teams punted and Colin Jasper intercepted a Riverside pass but then tossed it right back to Andrae McGaughy on the insuing offensive play and Riverside went 68 yards on 7 plays to go ahead 14-0 on a five yard TD run by Hoffman.  Troy fumbled a kick return and lost a fumble on a punt return late in the first half as Riverside capatalized and went up 20-0 at halftime on a McGaughy 12 yard run.

The turnovers and sloppy play continued for Troy as they fumbled away their initial play in the second half and McGaughy 1 yard run capped a short 8 yard-drive and put the game away at 27-7 in the third quarter.  Troy did avoid their third consecutive shutout to Riverside as Nathan Gaarder ran 39 yards on a fake punt, and then caught two passes including a 7 yard TD strike from Jasper with 10:10 to play in the final quarter.  The Cyclones finished the scoring with Drew Hoffman's third rushing  touchdown of the night from 12 yards out which gave him 187 yards on the night with 30 carries to earn the "Player to Bank On" honors from Citizens State Bank and Trust Company of Hiawatha.

McGaughy added 118 yards rushing and a pair of scores as Riverside improved to 4-0 with all wins by 20 or more points this season.  The Cyclones return home to face ACCHS (2-2) in week five.

Troy got 103 yards passing from Jasper, who started the game hitting 8 of 10 passes, but could not establish a running game for the second week in a row and fell to 2-2.
Class 2-1A District action starts next Friday at Jackson Heights (4-0).  That game will be aired live on KNZA 103.9 FM.
