Four Area Teams Find Themselves in Latest High School Football Rankings

Week one is fully behind us for the high school football season and it opened with some close games for area teams, some blowouts and great anticipation.

After one week of action four teams find themselves in the Kansas high school football rankings put out by multiple outlets. All four teams started the season preseason ranked and three of them came out on top in their contests while the other open the season with a one-point loss to a team ranked number one in their respective classification. Centralia, B&B, Hanover and Holton find themselves in the latest high school football rankings.

The Twin Valley League is well represented in the Kansas high school state rankings no matter which ones you use. In 11-man football it’s the Centralia Panthers leading the way opening the season number one in Class 2-1A and remaining their this week in all the polls after dispatching St. Mary's 16-0 to open the season. The Jackson Heights Cobras were the only other area team to receive any votes that coming in the Topeka Capital Journal after a 26-0 win over Horton.

While, in the 8-Man Division II level it’s the B&B Falcons and Hanover Wildcats that continue to lead the way for area teams as usual. The Falcons opened up the season facing off with the number one 8-Man Division I team, Madison and that set up a one versus one matchup in week one and the Madison Bulldogs came out on top of the Falcons in overtime 29-28 in the matchup. The Falcons this week in the rankings find themselves remaining at number one in the Kansasprepfootball.com and Kpreps polls, while being ranked second in the Topeka Capital Journal and third by VarsityKansas.

For the Hanover Wildcats they opened the season pouncing on the Linn Bulldogs for a 48-0 win. The Wildcats jumped into the number one spot in the Topeka Capital Journal and VarsityKansas rankings this week, while being ranked second in the Kansasprepfootball.com poll and third in the Kpreps poll.

Only one other team is receiving votes in 8-Man Division II and that's the Axtell Eagles who beat Lewiston week one, 42-16. Eagles are other considered in three of the four rankings.

At the 8-Man Division I level no area team is ranked but the Clifton-Clyde Eagles are in the others considered category in two of the four rankings after posting 78 points in a 78-56 win over Kenesaw.

In Class 3A, no area team is ranked this week but the Hiawatha Red Hawks who snuck away with a 14-13 win over Perry Lecompton in week one find themselves in the others considered category in two of the four polls.

Class 4A, hosts the lone other team ranked from the area as the Holton Wildcats remained at number one this week in all the area polls after downing DeSoto on the road 27-7 in week one. Fellow, Big Seven team Jeff West Tigers are in the others considered category this week by the Topeka Capital Journal after beating Sabetha 47-21.

Four area teams finding themselves ranked after one week of action of high school football and many others have their sights set on vying for a spot in the rankings and continuing to make noise early in the year.
