On Saturday (September 7th) it was the first tournament action for a few area volleyball squads from the Big Seven and Northeast Kansas league as Jeff West played host to five other teams for a round robin tournament.

Fellow Big Seven schools Royal Valley and Santa Fe Trail joined Jeff West in the tournament action, while Valley Falls and Oskaloosa from the Northeast Kansas league competed in the action, also with Silver Lake rounding out the six team tournament pool.

Santa Fe Trail lead the charge on the days competition sweeping their action going a perfect 5-0 with four of the five wins in straight sets. The lone matchup the Chargers needed an extra set in was against second place team on the day in Silver Lake; Chargers won the first set 25-19, lost second set 25-20 then won the match with a 25-21 third set win. Silver Lake finished their day with a 4-1 record.

The host Jeff West took home third place on their home floor going 3-2 in the action beating Royal Valley, Valley Falls and Oskaloosa on the day. Fellow, Big Seven team Royal Valley followed Jeff West taking fourth behind a 2-3 record; recording wins over Valley Falls and Oskaloosa. The Dragons of Valley Falls and Bears of Oskaloosa struggled on the day taking fifth and sixth place, respectively with 1-4 and 0-5 records. The Dragons lone win was over the Oskaloosa Bears in straight sets; although Valley Falls did push Royal Valley to a three set match.

All five area teams in the Jeff West tournament continue their volleyball season on Tuesday (September 10th) competing in league matchups.
