Hiawatha set up this past weekend to be in action on the road in two double headers; first up a showdown with Marysville on Friday night and then on Sunday travel to Hoyt for an NEK League double header, going 2-2 in the four games.

Weekend started on Friday with a pair of tough road losses to Marysville in hard fought games but the offense just came short in each contest, as Hiawatha fell 6-2 and 12-4 in the double header.

Game one, Marysville took the early 3-0 lead using a walk, single, hit batter, two-out walk and single in the first inning. Hiawatha got a run back in the top of the third behind a lead-off single by Dalton Lehmkuhl, who scored via an error. Marysville answered in the bottom of the third and countered Hiawatha run in the fourth inning with two of their own in the bottom of the fourth. Marysville went on to hold Hiawatha scoreless the rest of the way for the 6-2 win.

Hiawatha was hurt by five errors in the contest as Dalton Lehmkuhl took the tough loss going six innings, giving up 10 hits, six runs (3 earned), two walks and striking out three. Dakota Bayles and Lehmkuhl both went 2-3 in the loss.

Marysville was led by Cody Ketter on the mound who pitched all seven innings, giving up seven hits, two runs, three walks and striking out three. Trevor Moser led the offense with a 3-4 night, while Brock Watts was 2-3.

The scoring early trend continued for Marysville in game two with a run in the first and four more in the second to lead 5-0 early. Hiawatha got a pair of runs in the third and closed the game to within one in the fifth inning at 5-4 but things unraveled after that as Hiawatha gave up seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, to fall 12-4.

Brendan Steele and Baxter DeFore each had a double, while DeFore and Bayles registered the RBI's for Hiawatha. Shawn Green took the tough loss on the mound going four innings of action.

Brandon Fisher earned the win on the mound for Marysville, while Garrett Crome helped lead the offense with a multi-hit game while Taylor Platt added a hit a few RBI's.

After a pair of losses to Marysville, Hiawatha took to NEK League action on Sunday in Hoyt for a double header with Royal Valley, with both teams looking for league wins four and five.

A double header split in at Noble Park earlier this season, it was pretty much all Hiawatha in Hoyt as they earned the sweep with 14-6 and 7-6 wins.

The offense for Hiawatha wasted no time making its presence known with an 11-run first inning to open up game one, doing the damage with one-out in the inning using eight hits and two walks with one-out. Steele and DeFore highlighted the inning with a three RBI triple and two RBI double, respectively, as Hiawatha was two batters away from batting through the cycle twice in the inning. Three more runs were added by Hiawatha in the fifth.

Royal Valley tallied a run in the first and second, while plating four in the fifth, also.

Five Hiawatha players had multi-hits games with every player tallying an RBI and scoring at least one run. Bayles and Taylor Jacobsen lead the attack with three hit nights; Bayles had a triple with three runs scored and an RBI, while Jacobsen had two RBI, a walk and run scored. Lehmkuhl, DeFore and Parker Hasenkamp all posted two hits on the night. DeFore added three RBI's to his night with two runs scored and both hits for extra bases in a double and triple.

For Royal Valley, only Zac Lux registered a multi-hit game in the loss with Garrett Schultz tallying a pair of RBI's.

Game two was a see-saw affair with six lead changes; Royal Valley lead early on but Hiawatha used three run innings in the third and fourth to take the lead and hold on for the 7-6 win. Royal Valley tired the the late rally scoring a run in the fifth, when Logan Bausch stole home, then manage another run in the seventh, but fell short.

Jacobsen, Bayles and Lehmkuhl each had a multi-hit game, while Parker Hasenkamp pitched four innings for the win and Jacobsen finished the final three innings for the save.

For Royal Valley, the top of the order got it done but it wasn't enough as Bausch, Travis Burget, Pete Popkess and Josh Tessendorf each had two hits in the loss.

With the 2-2 weekend Hiawatha moved to 6-17 on the season and returns home tonight (Monday) to face Seneca at 7:00pm. Royal Valley with the pair of losses fell to 3-13 on the season.
