Beautiful weather continued to start the month of the July and Legion baseball action continued as well last night with Doniphan County on the road in a non-league showdown with Falls City and Holton and Royal Valley meet up in a rescheduled double header.

Looking to continue their momentum from their double header sweep of Sabetha Doniphan County took to the road and setup to play a tough Falls City squad. A pitchers dual early on turned into a one-side pitcher dual later in the matchup as Doniphan County tallied a run in the third and three-runs in the fourth and fifth to beat Falls City 7-0.

Jeffery Watts out dueled the Falls City pitchers in the contest as he threw a complete game one-hit shutout recording nine strikeouts in the process. Offensively Doniphan County out-hit Falls City 8-1 with a majority of the offense coming at the hands of Dylan Gabriel, Phoenix Keller and Cody Israel. Gabriel blasted a three-run homer, while Keller was 3-5 from the plate with two RBI and Israel went 2-3 with a pair of RBI.

Manager, Lyle Smith said that the win was probably the best game Doniphan County has played all year. With the win Doniphan County moved to 11-9 on the year, winning their last three contests.

In the only other NEK Legion action of the night it was Royal Valley playing host to Holton a pair of teams looking to find some consistency and notch a win or two. It was a rescheduled double header from earlier this season between the two. Royal Valley came out on top in both games 11-3 and 12-10 for wins two and three on the season, moving to 3-11 on the year, while Holton fell to 3-15 this season.

Tonight's slate of NEK Legion baseball action pits Sabetha versus Seneca in a league double header in Seneca with game times at 6:00 and 8:00pm. The 6:00pm game will be featured on Kanzaland radio (103.9 KNZA & 92.1 KMZA) and online here at MSCsports.net.

Also, Doniphan County will be action for the third straight night as they will host Hiawatha in a NEK showdown at 7:00pm in Wathena. Holton was also scheduled to be in action tonight at Silver Lake for a double header, but have forfeited the games slated for this evening.
