Looking to bounce back from their first losses of the season Seneca hosted fellow NEK League team Royal Valley for a double header on Wednesday night and came out with the sweep, grabbing 10-5 & 11-4 wins.

In Game one, Royal Valley got the scoring going first plating a run in the top of the second off an RBI single by Brooks McClane, but Seneca answered to tie the game 1-1 at the end of two innings. Royal Valley then regained the lead after a run in each the third & fourth innings leading it 3-1 going into the fifth frame. Seneca then used two walks & two singles to tie the game up 3-3, then burst out with a seven-run sixth to take firm control of the game and lead it 10-3. Royal Valley tired their best in the top of the seventh to battle back capitalizing on two hit batters and two walks to the tune of two runs but ultimately falling short, 10-5.

Alex Hermesch, Eric Huerter and Isaac McWilliams all had a three hit game to lead Seneca's 14 hit attack. McWilliams was selected as McDonald's of Hiawatha and Seneca "Player of the Game" after going 3-4 with a run scored, RBI, three stole bases, double and two singles. McWilliams biggest contribution came in the seven-run sixth as he lead the inning off with a infield single, stole two bases and scored, then added a RBI double later in the frame. David Olberding picked up the pitching victory in relief tossing the final inning and a third, taking over for Cody Rottinghaus.

Jon Cox and Travis Burget registered the only multi-hit games for Royal Valley in the loss, as they each had a two hits. Cox added an RBI and Burget scored two of the Royal Valley five runs.

Game two it was the top of the order (first four batters) getting it down for Seneca in the 11-4 win as they accounted for 10 of the teams 14 hits and scored all 11 runs. Seneca plated four in the first, added four in the second and then three more in the third. Royal Valley made it close early with three runs in the second but could only muster two more runs over the course of the rest of the game.

Michael Rottinghaus lead the offense for Seneca with a 3-3 game with three runs scored and three stole bases, while Eric Huerter and Alex Hermesch were 3-3 and 2-2 from the plate respectively. Huerter finished the game with a double, triple, three runs scored, four RBI and a walk, with Hermesch getting a pair of doubles for his two hits in the game, while scoring three runs, notching two RBI and drawing a walk, too.

In the loss, Jon Cox again lead Royal Valley's offense in the loss with another two hit game and was the only Royal Valley player in game two to get multiple hits.

With the sweep, Seneca bounced back from their first losses of the season to move their record to 14-2 on the season and remain undefeated in league play. Royal Valley continues to struggle to notch wins this year as they fall to 1-11 with the pair of losses. Both teams hit the diamond again on Saturday, as Seneca will travel to Holton for a double header at 4:00 and 6:00pm, while Royal Valley will play host to Doniphan County at 3:00pm with junior legion before at 1:00pm.
