Hiawatha & Sabetha Split Legion Double Header

Hiawatha traveled over to Somerset Park to square off with Sabetha in a NEK League double header, Wednesday night and it was a split with Hiawatha grabbing a 7-5 win and Sabetha answering in the nightcap with a 12-2 win.
 
Game one, Hiawatha took the early lead 5-1 after three innings of action but Sabetha battled back to tie the game at 5-5 after a Hiawatha error in the sixth. In the top of the seventh Hiawatha then capitalized on a walk and error and plated two to take the 7-5 advantage and then end Sabetha's threat of a comeback in the bottom of the seventh with a double play for the first two outs and player caught stealing to end the game, giving Hiawatha their third league win of the season.
 
Dakota Bayles picked up the pitching win in relief for Hiawatha pitching the final two innings, while going 2-3 with three runs scored and walk at the plate, Taylor Jacobson added a 2-3 night. Shawn Green started on the mound for Hiawatha pitching a solid four and one-third innings of action. Brendon Garrett took the tough loss for Sabetha going 6 1/3 giving up six hits, seven runs (three earned), seven walks, seven K's.
 
In Game two, it was all Sabetha as the cruised a 12-2 win in four innings of action, earning the split on the night. Hiawatha took the early lead 1-0, but Sabetha answered with a three-run bottom of the first to take the lead. Sabetha then added three in the second, five in the third and one more in the fourth to cap the game off. Hiawatha added their lone other run in the fourth inning.
 
Blake Popkess pitched all four innings to earn the win on the mound for Sabetha giving up four hits, two runs (one earned), two BB, two K's. McKenzie McAfee went 2-2 with three runs scored, two RBI and a pair of triples, while Tyler Edelman was 1-1 with two runs scored, RBI and two walks.
 
With the split on the night Hiawatha moves to 4-11 on the season, while Sabetha moves their record to 18-7 on the season. Up next for Hiawatha they will host Atchison in a double header on Friday at 6:00 and 8:00pm (listen to the 6pm game on KAIR 93.7 FM and online under the listen live tab here at MSCsports.net). For Sabetha, they took next hit the diamond on Friday as they will host non-league foe, Marysville at 8:00pm with junior legion beforehand at 6:00pm.
