Falls City Legion Teams Sweep Sabetha

Falls City opened the Legion Baseball season with wins over Sabetha Saturday at SNC Field.
 The Senior game came down to the final at-bat, with Falls City coming from five runs down to claim a 10-9 victory.
 The Blue Storm (Falls City) got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the second.  Sabetha, though stormed back in the next half inning with five runs of their own.  Keegan Schumann tied the game with a two-run home run to centerfield, driving in Blake Popkess, who had doubled to start the inning.  Sabetha tacked on three more runs after than, taking advantage of four walks and a hit batter by Falls City starter Lane Scheitel.
 Falls City scored two runs in the bottom of the third, but Sabetha extended the lead with one in the fourth and three more runs in the top of the 5th, and led 9-4 after five-and-a-half innings.
 But Falls City had the answer.  The first three batters in the bottom of the 6th – Chaz Dunn, Codie Witt, and Derek Bippes – all reached safely and all came around to score to bring Falls City to with in two after six.
 After Sabetha went down in order in the top of the 7th, Falls City put three on the board in the bottom of the inning.
 Pinch hitter Logan Scheitel got on with a lead off single and Jordy Stoller drew a walk.  Both advanced on a passed ball.  Dunn tied the game with a one-out double and Codie Witt followed with a single to score Dunn and end the game.
 Reese Hogue was the winning pitcher in relief of Lane Scheitel, who worked four-and-a-third innings.  Nolan Keim pitched took the loss in relief for Sabetha.

 The junior game was all Falls City.  The Blue Storm scored at least one run in each inning on their way to a 16-1, five-inning victory.  Logan Scheitel was the winning pitcher, striking out 13 batters in five innings.

 The games were the first to be played on the newly renovated SNC Field at Dallas Jones Park.
