JCN Charger Boys &Girls and Riverside Boys Win Final DVL Track Titles (Full Results)

In the final year of the Delaware Valley League teams battled on the track on Thursday to win the final DVL track title.

The top team performances came at the hands of two schools with Jefferson County North and Riverside sitting atop the team standings at the end of the day. Both the boys and girls team for JCN took home first place finishes, while the Riverside boys tied the Chargers for first and the Cyclone ladies notched a second place finish.

JCN Charger and Riverside Cyclone boys tied for first at the end of the day’s competitions after both registering 105 points. The Cobras of Jackson Heights grabbed third place after posting 61 points, with Valley Falls following right behind in fourth with 59 points, while Pleasant Ridge rounded out the top five with fifth place behind 52 points. The rest of the teams finished like so: Horton – 6th (44); McLouth – 7th (39); KC Christian – 8th (37); Oskaloosa – 9th (30); ACCHS – 10th (28); Immaculata – 11th (17); Maur Hill-Mount Academy – 12th (15); Doniphan West – 13th (15) and Troy – 14th(3).

In the girls competition it was the lady JCN Chargers tally 125 points to grab first place by 15.5 points, over second place finishers the Riverside Cyclones who scored 109.5 points. Pleasant Ridge Rams took home a third place finish after posting 77.5 points, while ACCHS and Horton battled it out finishing fourth and fifth, respectively with 47 and 41 points. The rest of the teams finished like so: Maur Hill-Mount Academy – 6th (35.5); McLouth – 7th (34); Valley Falls – 8th (30); Doniphan West – 9th (27.5); Jackson Heights – 10th (24); KC Christian – 11th (22); Oskaloosa – 12th (15); Troy – 13th (10) and Immaculata – 14th (5).

There were plenty of top individual performances on the day with seven DVL athletes grabbing multiple gold medals on the day.

Leading the way with the best individual performance of the day was Riverside lady Cyclone, Conner Schultz who took home three first place finishes winning the 800 meter run (2:34.92), long jump (16-06) and triple jump (36-04).  Andrae McGaughy also took home a pair of wins on the day sweeping the boys hurdles competitions, winning the 100 and 300 meters with times of 16.12 and 42.16. Cyclones took home one more first place finish with Dillon Logston winning the pole vault (10-00).

The Chargers of JCN finished the day like Riverside with multi-event winners as Hannah Twenhafel and Dallas Edwards both won a pair of running events. For Twenhafel she swept the hurdles competition posting times of 16.70 and 49.57, to win the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Edwards paced his way to wins in the distance runs of 800 and 1600 meters, posting times of 2:07.04 and 4:44.93. While the JCN lady Chargers relay team grabbed two first place finishes also, winning both the 4x100 (53.09) and 4x400 meter relays (4:26.44). Chargers didn’t stop with those six first place finishes as Luke Pyle, Heather Polson and Laramie Leakey each won a field event to help JCN win first as team in both the girls and boys competition. Pyle tossed his way to a win in the javelin (162-10), Polson leapt to a win in the high jump (4-10) and Leakey took home the pole vault (9-00) crown.

Jackson Heights and McLouth were the only two other DVL schools on the day to have a multi-event winner. For the Bulldogs, Dakota Cop took home the lone gold medals for McLouth winning the 100 meter dash (11.39) and the triple jump (40-08).

The Cobras, Eric Mellenbruch grabbed his two first place finishes on the track with wins in the 100 and 400 meter dashes behind times of 23.49 and 51.75. His teammate, Caleb Niehues took home a first place finish after tossing his way to a win in the shot put (45-07).

Horton Chargers charged home with four first place finishers at the DVL meet with wins by Leah Murata, Carrissa Lowe, Trey Dishon and the boys 4x100 meter relay team. Murata paced her way to the win in 3200 meter run (12:37.53), while Lowe tossed her way to gold in the shot put (35-01). Dishon like Lowe tossed his way to a win grabbing the victory in the discus throw (137-09).

The ACCHS Tigers pounced on wins in the girls 1600 meter run (5:35.86) and boy’s long jump (20-01.50) with Maddison Bissel and Jacob Hansen grabbing the wins. While the lady Tigers 4x800 meter relay team notched a win, also after registering a time of 10:27.91.

Pleasant Ridge, Oskaloosa and Valley Falls all took home a pair of first place finishes by a pair of individuals or relay teams.

The Rams were led by Tony Weber who took home first in the 3200 meter run (10:22.14), while Oleta Mccaully won the girls javelin throw with a toss of 120-06. For the Oskaloosa Bears, Justin Sharp leapt to his win in the high jump (5-10) with Nicole Kruse joining him on the podium as she won the discus throw (107-06).

For the Valley Falls Dragon the boy’s 4x400 meter relay registered a win on the day’s action after running to a time of 3:37.00. They were joined by in the first place category by fellow Dragon, Emily Nottingham who won the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.60.

Maur Hill-Mount Academy and KC Christian took home the other two first place finishes on the day with Sarah Mullins winning the 100 meter dash (12.98) for the Ravens and KC Christian’s 4x800 meter relay (8:51.27) team won, too.

With final Delaware League track in the books the teams and athletes turn their attention to Regionals next Friday, as they look to qualify for state.
