Former Holton Wildcat, Lucas Lovvorn Putting Together Strong Season on Mats at Baker

After two years at the Division I level competing at the University of Wyoming former Holton Wildcat, Lucas Lovvorn returned to Kansas and closer to home to continue his education and wrestling career at Baker University becoming a Wildcat again and has found some strong success at the NAIA level.

Lovvorn has put together a 19-4 record in competition at 174lbs competing for the Baker Wildcats who rank 15th in the country as a team in NAIA, while Lovvorn’s success has earned him a ranking of 11th at 174lbs in NAIA.

In the first action of 2018 the former Holton Wildcat posted a 3-0 mark at the NWCA National Duals in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He picked up wins by 9-3 and 12-2 decision and 9-0 major decision.

At the Oklahoma City Duals Lovvorn notched a 4-0 day beating four ranked wrestlers and his performance earned him Heart of America Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week. Two of the wins came by decision 12-10 and 13-1, while also winning by major decision 17-7 and 13-0.

Lovvorn has also notched a 5-1 performance at the Doane Open and 4-1 showing at the Lindenwood Open during the season for Baker.

While at Wyoming the former Holton Wildcat went 17-8 in 2015-16 season on the mats and finished fourth at the Northern Colorado Open, while in the 2016-17 season he went 17-12 competing at three different weights through the season and took fourth at the UNC Open.

In high school Lovvorn put together seasons to remember at Holton finishing his Holton wrestling career with a 4A 160lbs State title and 48-1 record his senior year. While he helped Holton wrestling win 4A team State titles in 2014 and 2013 when he won the 152lbs State title his junior year and took fourth at 138lbs as a sophomore.

Lovvorn looks to continue to build upon his success at Baker and springboard it into a strong overall season that includes a run in the postseason on the mats.
