Former Atchison Redmen, Madison Sanders Helps Benedictine Women's Soccer to National Runner-Up Finish

The Benedictine lady Ravens soccer team capped the 2017 season with the best finish in school history in the National NAIA tournament finishing National runner-up, going 19-3-3 on the season.

Helping lead the charge throughout the year was hometown grow talent former Atchison Redmen, Madison Sanders who played defender for the Ravens and as senior was a key leader on the team. Sanders and the Ravens won the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament and qualified for the National NAIA tournament. In Nationals the Ravens won 3-0 in the first round of Trinity Christian College then captured a 1-0 win over the University of Mobile in the second round. In the Quarterfinals the Ravens won a 1-1 contest in a shootout against Martin Methodist then beat Carey University in the Semifinals 1-0. In the Championship Benedictine took on Spring Arbor University and fell 2-0 to finish National runner-up.

Sanders on the year anchored the defense for Benedictine playing in and starting all 25 games and recorded 14 assists which led the team and ranked tenth in NAIA. The former Atchison Redmen put together a strong season and earned plenty of postseason honors racking up second team All-American honors and first team All-Conference honors in the HAAC, while also being named to the National All-Tournament team.

Over the course of her four years at Benedictine, Sanders played in 88 games and registered four goals and 19 assists.

In high school Madison earned All-League honors multiple times in soccer and was a team captain, while she also was a multi-sport athlete playing basketball and participating in track. Earning All-League and other honors in other sports, also.

Sanders closed out her Benedictine playing career helping the Ravens enjoy a highly successful season and finish at 2017 National Runner-up in NAIA.
