If there’s one thing that’s been consistent over the years, it’s that Washburn University has been a hot bed for area Northeast Kansas athletes to continue their careers at the collegiate level.

That is the story for former Sabetha Bluejay Alexis McAfee who is currently in her senior season on the Washburn University Women’s Basketball team where she has helped lead the Ichabods to an 11-8 record to this point including a 5-5 record in the MIAA.

Through 19 games she is averaging 9.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 72 percent from the foul line.

McAfee has scored in double figures 10 times this season with her biggest output being a 22-point effort in a win over Harding University and has recorded a double-double twice along with just last week dishing out eight assists in a win over Newman University.

She has started all 30 games for the Ichabods the past two seasons, and this past season earned an All-MIAA honorable mention selection along with being named an MIAA Scholar Athlete.

At Sabetha McAfee picked up first team all-state honors her senior season, while she was also named to all-state teams her sophomore and junior seasons.

McAfee will look to continue her strong senior campaign with the Ichabods as Washburn will next be in action Saturday, Feb. 1 on the road at the University of Central Missouri.
