Girls Basketball - Frankfort vs Valley Heights 01/18/2018 6:00 PM

TVL Tournament (at Onaga) - Semifinals

Double Overtime

The second time around against each other was another tight ballgame this season but a different story in the outcome as Valley Heights earned the 65-57 double Overtime win over Frankfort to earn a spot in the TVL Tournament Championship on Saturday.

Frankfort jumped up 7-0 on the start of the game but Valley Heights whittled the lead to a 9-7 advantage in the quarter only to see Frankfort end the quarter strong with a three-pointer at the buzzer that was heaved in by Jessa Yaussi making it 19-12. Valley Heights used a 12-6 second quarter to drawn within one-point and had opportunities to take the lead but Frankfort held them off as the Wildcats led 25-24 at the half. Valley Heights took their first lead of the game at 26-25 early in the second half but Frankfort again answered leading 38-34 after the third quarter. The lead changed hands again several times in the fourth with Valley Heights leading down the stretch. In the final seconds of regulation Yaussi was fouled going to the line with Frankfort down 51-50. Yaussi missed the first free throw but made the second with 6.4 seconds to go and Valley Heights hurried down the court for a potential game winning bucket but instead threw it away and to Overtime the game went.

Valley Heights led for most of the fist Overtime but Frankfort stayed closed and tied it down the stretch and had the ball with the final seconds left and a three-pointer came up short by Emilee Ebert. In the second Overtime Valley Heights outscored Frankfort 8-0 to earn the 65-57.

The win moves Valley Heights into the TVL Tournament Championship game on Saturday and puts them at 8-3 on the season. Kayla Smith led Valley Heights with 28 points as she went 13-17 from the free throw line and earned Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on 92.1 KMZA. Sam Vermetten added 18 points, while Emma Toerber netted 11 points. The win also marks the first for Coach Jordan Broxterman against his former coach Brian Ebert who use to coach the Frankfort boys.

With the loss Frankfort fell to 10-2 on the season and into the third place game of the TVL Tournament. Ebert led the Wildcats with 22 points, while Yaussi and Kennen Brandt each scored 13 points.
