The Jefferson West baseball team hosted Hiawatha in Big East League play on Monday afternoon in Ozawkie.
The Tigers spotted the Redhawks three runs in the first inning, but Jeff West was able to rally to pick up the 6-3 victory.
The Redhawks got their lone three runs of the game in the first off an RBI groundout by Cooper Crider and a two RBI double by Rhen Hageman.
The Tigers would save their best for the third inning when they took the lead pouring on five runs in that frame. They got an RBI single from Brody Thelen, a two RBI single from Cooper Watkins, and an RBI groundout from Colin Crowson.
Ryan Pressler would drive in the sixth and final run of the game for the Tigers with a suicide squeeze in the fifth inning.
Both teams using multiple pitchers in the game, but the Tigers got great work from Thelen late in the game. Thelen came on in the fifth inning and closed the game striking out six batters down the stretch.
The Tigers would ultimately sweep the double dip as they would take down the Redhawks in game two later that night by a final score of 7-3.
Jefferson West improved to 4-0 overall while the Redhawks dropped to 2-2 on the season.
