The St. Marys boys basketball team are joining the likes of Big East league teams Silver Lake and Rossville at state tournaments this upcoming week.
The Bears ended Cair Paravel's 19-game winning streak on Saturday night with a big win in the sub-state title game.
The game was close in the first half with the Bears leading 15-12 after the first quarter and 30-23 at halftime.
The Bears left no doubt by putting the game away with solid play on both ends of the floor in the second half.
Ben DeVader led the way for St. Marys with 23 points including four threes in the second half. Zach Sommars finished with 15 points and six rebounds and Jace Hurla pitched in with 11 points.
Cair Paravel's season ends with a record of 22-3 and were led by Lucas Marichal with 17 points and six rebounds while they also got 10 points from Chase Hastert.
The Bears are at the state tournament for the ninth time in program history. The Bears will be the 5-seed in the 2A bracket and will face 4-seed Thomas More Prep in the opening round on Wednesday (3/11) at 2 PM in Salina. Coverage of that game will be live on 96.9 The Pulse.
