The Axtell Eagles hosted their final home game of the season and brought a tremendous home crowd for the 8M-II Sectional round matchup against Frankfort to accompany what was a dominant 60-14 sweep for the Axtell Eagles over Frankfort through the two and a half quarters of play.
Summary
The first quarter ended 22-0 with the Axtell Eagles scoring on all first of their threes drives. Axtell started with their first possession at their own ten after a Joe Lybarger interception. The Eagles found their way swiftly into the end zone off an 8-yard rush from Wyatt Detweiler to go up 8-0. Landon Schmitz added a 38-yard rushing score in the first as well and Detweiler found himself into the end zone again off a 60-yard scramble.
Frankfort would finally find the end zone off the legs of Wes Anderson to cut it to 22-8 but Axtell would give a quick reply back with another Detweiler rushing score to extend it back to 30-8. Frankfort then marched down the field to respond again, but unfortunately for the Wildcats, a fumble for Frankfort would result in a 56-yard fumble six for Lucas Talbot, to extend Axtell 38-8. The half would end 46-14 with both quarterbacks exchanging rushing scores. Frankfort tried to tack on another score before the first half ended with one second left but Anderson threw his second interception of the game to Landon Schmitz in the end zone.
Axtell would end the game with just two scores in the third quarter, coming out of halftime with a long drive capped off by a Colin Shaugnessy 6-yard rushing score, but a missed two point conversion to make it 52-14. Frankfort would convert massive third and fourth downs on their final drive but would come up short on their final fourth down, giving the ball back to Axtell and letting the Eagles end the game 60-14 off a 65-yard rushing touchdown from Detweiler.
Wyatt Detweiler finished with nine carries for 203 yards rushing with five rushing touchdowns. Detweiler also went 10 of 13 for 163 yards passing. The Eagles finished with 438 yards of offense.

Axtell will now rematch against the Hanover Wildcats in the sub-state championship game on the road next Friday, in what will be a match-up of the century.
