The Holton volleyball team had their season come to an end in day one of the Class 4A State Tournament in Hutchinson.

The Wildcats made the state tourney for a second straight season for the first time in school history.

Holton went 0-3 in pool play with losses to Hayden, Clay Center, and Bishop Miege.

In the first match against Hayden, they were tied at 17-17 in the first set but Hayden would rattle off eight of the next 11 points to win the first set 25-20.

They had a similar finish in set two with Holton leading that second set at one point 20-17 but Hayden rallied to sweep the match 25-23.

In the second match against top-seed Clay Center, Holton jumped out to an early lead but the Tigers battled back to take the first set 25-21.

Both teams had set point opportunities in the second set but the Tigers were able to edge out the wildcats for the sweep winning 27-25.

Holton was eliminated from Saturday's action after dropping that match against the Tigers and had their final match of the day against the two-time defending champion Bishop Miege Stags.

Stags won the first set 25-19 but Holton battled back and won the second set 25-22. The Wildcats hung tough the entire third set but ultimately the Stags rallied and closed it out with a 25-23 set three win.

The Wildcats finish off their 2024 season with an overall record of 29-14 with a third-place finish in the Big East league and second straight trip to the state tournament for the first time in school history.
