It was a battle of one-loss teams on Friday night in Troy in what was a big district game in Class 1A with Troy hosting Riverside.

The Cyclones were able to hold on and get a big win by a final score of 14-12.

Troy (4-2, 2-1 district) scored the first touchdown of the game in the first quarter on a 13-yard run by quarterback Gannon Bowe but they would miss the two-point conversion try.

Riverside (5-1, 3-0 district) would take the lead in the second quarter as they converted on fourth down as Beckam Griffin found Ty'Zell Harrington on a 10-yard pass as the score was 7-6 at halftime.

The Cyclones got the ball to start the second half and chewed up over eight minutes but came up empty as they missed a 34-yard field goal.

After a Troy punt, the Cyclones would score as they capped a 59-yard drive with a three-yard run by Elijah Moore and they would lead at that point 14-6.

With under six minutes left in the game, Troy would execute a 75-yard drive in three-plus minutes with Bowe finding Jackson Hartman on a seven-yard pass to cut the deficit to 14-12.

However, Troy would fail on the two-point conversion and needed some help down the stretch.

Riverside would recover the onside kick with roughly two minutes left in the game but the Troy defense would force a quick punt and they would have a chance with a minute to go starting their final drive at the Riverside 47 yard line.

But on 4th down, Bowe's pass was intercepted by Chase Hewins and the Cyclones were able to kneel down to secure the win.

Troy had three turnovers in the game with two interceptions and a fumble while Riverside had no turnovers in the game.

Griffin threw for 81 yards and a touchdown while Moore rushed for 60 yards and a score while Mason Hayes added 62 yards on the ground.

Bowe threw for 143 yards while Logan Blevins caught five passes for 69 yards.

Riverside's final two games will be at Doniphan West and at home against Centralia while Troy will close out the regular season with games at Centralia and at home against Maur Hill-Mount Academy.
