The Class 1A State Football Championship game will take place Saturday, November 25th beginning at 1:00 PM at Lewis Field at Fort Hays State University.

The matchup will feature the (11-1) Jefferson County North Chargers and the (10-2) Conway Springs Cardinals.

JCN has posted their best season in school history as they had never been past the quarterfinals until this season. The Chargers playoff run includes wins over Troy, Centralia, Olpe, and St. Marys Colgan.

Getting past Centralia and Olpe in the playoffs was a big hurdle for the Chargers to get over but the Sub-State win over the Panthers was huge. St. Marys Colgan was the number one ranked team in the classification all season and were the lone unbeaten team left in 1A before the Chargers knocked them off 20-13.

In that game, JCN got down 13-0 in the first half before rallying and putting together a dominant second half performance on defense to pull the upset win on the road.

Grady Noll finished the game with 117 rushing yards and a touchdown while Ethan Noll rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown. Calvin Manville also had a receiving touchdown in the game. Connor Keirns had two interceptions on defense while Cameron Seever led the Chargers with nine total tackles.

The lone loss this season for JCN was against the defending champs in St. Marys was back on October 6th 34-18. Since then, JCN has rattled off six straight wins on their way to the title game.

The Chargers offense is averaging 45.5 points per game while the defense is giving up just 10.2 points per game.

Conway Springs will be looking for their eighth title in school history and first since 2011. The Cardinals lost their first two games of the season against Garden Plain and Kingman but have won 10 straight to reach the title game.

The Cardinals do their damage offensively on the ground as they are averaging 362.8 rushing yards per game this season. They are led by Brayden Kunz who’s one of the top backs in the state averaging nearly 209 yards per game with 21 touchdowns.

As a team, the Cardinals are averaging nearly 8 yards per carry. The defense is giving up 18 points per game but have surrendered 20 or more points in six of their 12 games this season.

This will be the first ever meeting between Jefferson County North and Conway Springs and the Class 1A State Championship will be on the line.

You can hear all the action from Hays with Tom Kautz on the call beginning with pregame coverage around 12:30 PM and the kickoff at 1:00 PM on KAIR 93.7 FM.
