Sabetha Girls, Jeff West Boys Take Big 7 Contests

On the final Friday night in 2020 for high school basketball the Sabetha Bluejays traveled to Meriden (Kansas) for a matchup with the Jeff West Tigers. Both teams split the games last season at Jeff West as the Sabetha Girls won and the Jeff West Boys won.

This year would not be any different as the Sabetha girls would once again get the win by a score of 36-24, and the Jeff West Boys get the win by a final score 52-43.

The seniors for both teams in both games played a huge factor as far as getting the win, with one player scoring 22 points on the night.

The Sabetha Lady Jays and Jeff West Lady Tigers would get the night started, and after a 13-13 halftime score the Lady Jays would come away with the win 36-24.

Sabetha was led in scoring by Senior Leah Renyer who had 11 points, while Melinna Schumann chipped in 10 points as well.

The Sabetha girls would go 6 of 13 from the free throw line as a team, commit 8 turnovers and hit 4 three-pointers on the night as a team in the win.

The Jeff West Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Junior Mellany Roenne with 11 points, while Brooklyn Michaelis had 8 points in the loss.

Jeff West as a team went 2 of 6 from the line, hit 2 three-pointers and committed 11 turnovers as a team as well.

In the night finale the Jeff West Boys would get the hard-fought win over a tough Sabetha team by a final score of 51-43.

Jeff West was led in scoring by Senior Garrett Athon who netted 22 points, while Joshua Broxterman chipped in 13 points and Carson Brading also had 8 points.

The Tigers would go 9 of 13 from the free throw line, make 4 three-pointers and commit 10 turnovers in the win.

Sabetha was led in scoring by Senior Kaleb Evans with 15 points, and Matthew Garber chipped in 10 points along with Marcus Bauman's 8 points as well.

The Bluejays as a team went 8 of 16 from the line, netted 3 three-pointers and committed 9 turnovers as a team in the loss.

Jeff West Girls and Boys next game is against Council Grove. The Sabetha Girls move to 5-0 Overall and 3-0 in the League. However the

Sabetha Boys move to 0-4 Overall and 0-2 in the League. Both Sabetha teams will play host to in-county rival and Big 7 Foe Nemaha Central Thunder on Tuesday night in Sabetha.
