For the first time since 1982 and the eighth time in school history the Perry Lecompton Kaws boys basketball team will be headed to State after earning a 50-44 win over St. Mary's in the 3A Silver Lake Sub-State Championship game.
The Kaws led only 13-11 after the first quarter but that lead was gone by halftime as St. Mary's held a 26-23 advantage at intermission. Perry Lecompton tied the game up by the end of third with an 11-8 quarter and in the final eight minutes of play the Kaws posted a 16-10 fourth to take the 50-44 win over St. Mary's.
Canaan Daniels led Perry Lecompton with 22 points, while Colton Mallonee chipped in 12 points for the Kaws who with the win moved to 20-3 on the season and head into the State tournament on a four-game win streak.
Perry Lecompton draws the six seed and will play at 8:15pm on Wednesday, March 7th in Hutchinson against the three seed Cheney (21-2) at the 3A State tournament.
