Four Area Teams, Nine Individuals Qualify for 1A State Cross Country

Class 1A Cross Country Regional at Riley County – Results

Area Class 1A teams competed at regional meets on Saturday and at the regional hosted by Riley County four teams and nine individuals earned spots at the state meet.

On the girl’s side Doniphan West claimed the regional title for the second straight season and will look to defend their state title from a year ago.

The Mustangs were led by Elle Williams and Chloe Clevinger who finished second and third while Claire Cole added a seventh-place finish.

Clifton-Clyde took fourth as a team to qualify for state while Jackson Heights had a single girl qualify in Annie Allen who took fifth.

The girl’s side was rounded out by Linn and Hanover who each qualified one for the state meet as the Bulldogs had Claire Beikmann finish ninth while the Wildcats Michelle Zarybnicky was tenth.

On the boy’s side Wetmore and Jackson Heights each qualified their teams for the state meet with the Cobras Daniel Little taking second and Nathaniel Linck sixth to lead top 10 finishers.

Axtell added the only other individual state qualifier as Mitchell Buessing came in 10th.

All state qualifiers now get ready for state which will take place Saturday at Victoria scheduled to begin at 12-noon.
