The July portion of the 2019 legion baseball season continued Tuesday night with a handful of area teams in action and complete recaps of each game can be found below.

Monday, July 1

Marysville drops non-league contest to Beatrice

Behind a 6-run sixth inning Beatrice was able to build a lead and take down Marysville in a non-league showdown 8-2. Marysville took an initial 1-0 lead in the third inning on a bases loaded walk from Trey Siemens. Beatrice responded with two runs in the fifth and then took complete control with a 6-run sixth inning. Marysville was only able to muster two hits in the contest, as Jonny Crome and Storm Slupianek each picked up hits and were each on base twice with walks.

Tuesday, July 2

Seneca earns NEKL doubleheader sweep of Hiawatha

The weather was hot and so were the Seneca bats on Tuesday night as in game one Seneca scored 11 runs in the second and nine in the third to pick up a dominant 21-4 victory. Shane Koch was named our McDonald’s Player of the Game on KNZA, as he finished with one hit, two walks, three RBI’s, three runs scored and one stolen base. Seneca also got a complete game from Landen Baker, as he went all four innings allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out five. Andrew Leonard also collected three hits for Seneca, while Bryce Uphaus added two hits and two RBI’s.

Game two was a much closer result, as Seneca got a walk with the bases load in the sixth inning to walk-off with a 6-5 win. Seneca jumped out to a 3-1 after two innings, but Hiawatha responded with three runs in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead. Seneca came right back with two runs in the fifth to tie the game and force extras, before Noe Gauna walked in the winning run on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded. Andrew Leonard and Bryce Uphaus each racked up two hits for Seneca, while in the loss Hiawatha received two hits and two RBI’s from Andrew Lierz.

Sabetha wins non-league contest over Falls City

Behind a pair of 4-run inning Sabetha was able to earn a 9-3 non-league victory over Falls City. The Raptors scored four runs in both the third and seventh innings.  Trevor Kramer pitched the first five innings allowing just an unearned run.  Joe Gruber and Brayden Becker each pitched an inning to finish the game. Riley Herrmann scored three runs and Joe Gruber added two more. Jalen Worthley was on base three times and had a pair of RBI's on a sac-fly and a seventh inning single.  The Raptors had only six hits with Gabe Garber collecting two of the hits.

Oskaloosa drops two games to Topeka

Topeka scored early and often in a sweep of Oskaloosa Tuesday night by scores of 7-3 and 12-7. AJ Kreutzer delivered two hits for Oskaloosa in the game one loss, while Eli King had two hits and two RBI’s in game two. Defense let the River bandits down in the first game committing three errors, while in game two pitching let the team down forcing Oskaloosa to use five different pitchers.

Doniphan County splits doubleheader with Leavenworth

Doniphan County scored four runs in both the first and second innings to jump on top of Leavenworth before going on to pick up a 13-9 win in game one. Cale Hamilton and Trent Spike each collect three hits for DC, while Connor Hayes added three RBI’s to go along with Spiker’s four and Hamilton’s three. Doniphan County was able to overcome three errors on the day and got two innings of one-run baseball from Braden Chalfant in relief of Aiden Leonard.

In game two Leavenworth plated three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead and hold on to beat Doniphan County 3-1. DC collected just four hits in game two, with the lone RBI coming from Connor Hayes. Kobe Davis got hit with the loss for DC, as he threw all five innings allowing just two earned runs while striking out six.
