Twin Valley League Teams Compete in Valley Heights Track & Field Invite

Track and field season is fully underway and many Twin Valley League teams competed against each other with a few other teams participating also in the Valley Heights Invitational yesterday (April 2nd).

The action was highlighted by the TVL with many great top performances on the day. On the girls side Linn walked away with the team title with 114.5 total points, Axtell finished second has a team with 84 points and B&B took third with 79.50 total points. The remaining seven girls teams finished like so: Pawnee City (4th), Valley Heights (5th), Frankfort (6th), Hanover (7th), Southern (8th), Wabaunsee (9th) and Blue Valley-Randolph (10th).

On the boys side it was Pawnee City winning the team title finishing with 116 total points, while the host school Valley Heights took second with 94 total points and Frankfort finished third with 70 total points. The remaining eight boys squads finished like so: Southern (4th), Hanover (5th), Axtell (6th), Linn (7th), B&B (8th), Wabaunsee (9th), Blue Valley-Randolph (10th) and St. Xavier (11th).

In the girls competition area teams from the TVL highlighted the competition. Perhaps the best performance of any individual on the day on the girls side of the competition came at the hands of Jo Roepke for Valley Heights who three events, taking the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes on the day, registering times of 12.96, 27.46 and 59.56, respectively. Her Mustang, teammate Sidney Blackburn also took home a first place finish winning the discus throw with a toss of 97-01.

Both B&B and Frankfort had mulitple first place finishers in the girls field events on the day. For the lady Falcons it was state champion, Haley Strathman leading the way winning both the high jump and long jump with leaps of 5-06 and 32-02.75. Fellow Falcon, Laura Sudbeck captured the shot put crown on the day with a toss of 37-02, nearly three feet better than second place. For the Wildcats of Frankfort it was was seniors, Jessa Jones and Josie Hale earning event wins on the day in the pole vault and javelin throw, respectively. Jones vaulted her way to a win behind a vault of 8-00 and Hale tossed her way to a win in the javelin throw with a toss of 102-06, nearly six feet better than second place.

Hanover Wildcats day was highlighted by wins in the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays with times of 4:23.47 and 10:52.14, while Courtney Jueneman, also registered a win in the 800 meter dash behind a time of 2:34.31. Linn Bulldogs took home a first place finish in the 4x100 meter relay (53.79) and in the 1600 meter run, with Nicole Ohlde earning that win (5:39.21).

For the lady Eagles of Axtell, only Audrey Schmitz won an event capturing the 3200 meter run behind a time of 12:56.62, but the Eagles were highlighted by other performances also to help them get that second place team finish.

On the boys side, it was Valley Heights Mustang, Elijah Smith highlighting the action, perhaps highlighting the whole invitational winning four events. Smith first off dashed his way to a win in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.22, then took home the 110 meter hurdles crown behind a time of 15.84. Smith then turned his attention to the field events were he leapt to first place finishes in the long jump and triple jump with leaps of 19-09.50 and 45-00.50, respectively.

The Wildcats of Frankfort who finished third as a team, were highlighted on the day behind four first place finishes coming in the javelin, pole vault and 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Alex Surdez and Lucas Adams put together great performances in the javelin and pole vault, respectively to win each of those evnets. Surdez tossed his way to the javelin win with a toss of 149-02, while Adams vaulted 11-06 to gain his first place finish. For the 1600 and 3200 meter runs it was a guy who usuaully always finishes towards the top winning the pair of events, as Adam Koch paced his way to times of 4:51.93 and 10:48.66 for wins in the 1600 and 3200.

Hanover took home two first place finishes with Evan Zabokrtsky winning the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.55 and Preston Jueneman winning the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09.96. Linn, saw Brett Peters toss his way to a win in the discus throw with a toss of 128-10.50. For the B&B Falcons their 4x100 meter relay squad of Brendon Bergman, Blake Deters, Trevor Heiman and Cameron Haug took home a first place finish with a time of 47.59.
