Highland Softball Sweeps Neosho in DH with Offense and a No-Hitter
By Mike Smith

It's been a great week for the Highland softball squad as they jumped up to #8 in the latest NJCAA Division softball rankings and continued to win in impressive fashion downing Neosho in a pair on the road.

The Scotties improved to 18-4 on the season and are 13-1 in the conference thus far this season, after taking care of Neosho with 12-0 and 8-0 wins on Thursday.

Highland got the offense going early in the 12-0 win as they tallied all their runs in the first three innings of work behind a total of 13 hits in the game, cruising to the win in five innings. Freshman, Holly Wilmarth continued to spark the Scotties offense going 3-3 in the game with a double and homer, while tallying three runs scored and four RBI's. Freshman, Emma Hill added a three hit game, going 3-4 with a triple and three runs scored and four RBI's. Freshman, Kellyn Holt and sophomore, Katie Yoder each added a pair of hits in the win, also for the Scotties.

Next game the Scotties continued their hot hitting, registering the 8-0 win behind 11 hits, but the pitching was the story of this game, as freshman, Jasmine Stewart and Natalie Abrahams combined for the no-hitter against Neosho. Stewart pitched four innings giving up a pair of walks while striking out five, as Abrahams pitch two innings with one walk and four strikeouts.

Wilmarth continued the offensive onslaught as she went 2-4 with a triple and run scored and two RBI's, while freshman, Kelli Halder added a two-hit game going 2-3 with a run scored and RBI. But it was freshman, Allyne Clark leading the way in this game with a 3-3 performance with a double, run scored and RBI.

Highland next hits the field in a battle with rival Johnson County on Tuesday (April 2nd) at 2:00pm in Highland. It will be a battle of ranked teams as Highland currently ranks eighth and Johnson County checks in at nineteenth in the latest polls.
