The Perry-Lecompton boys basketball team punched its ticket to the Class 3A Sub-State Championship on Tuesday night, defeating Jefferson West 62–41 at home.
Jefferson West came out firing, taking a 17–13 lead after the first quarter. The Tigers built multiple seven-point advantages in the first half, but Perry-Lecompton steadily chipped away. The Kaws closed the gap late in the second quarter and carried a 28–25 lead into halftime.
The second half belonged to Perry-Lecompton. The Kaws tightened up defensively and found their rhythm offensively, outscoring Jefferson West 18–11 in the third quarter and 16–5 in the fourth to pull away for the decisive win.
Colby Krein and Houston Habiger led the charge for Perry-Lecompton. Krein poured in a game-high 26 points, knocking down seven three-pointers while adding five rebounds and going a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Habiger delivered a strong second-half performance, scoring 15 of his 21 points after the break. He also grabbed three rebounds and finished 5-of-6 at the stripe.
As a team, the Kaws hit nine three-pointers, shot 15-of-21 from the free-throw line, and committed just 10 turnovers.
Jefferson West was led by Brody Schwinn, who finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Jason Payne added 13 points. The Tigers close out the 2025–26 season at 15–10 overall, including a 6–4 mark in Big East play that earned them a tie for fourth place. That total marks a significant improvement after winning just six games a season ago.
With the victory, Perry-Lecompton improves to 18–7 and has now won seven of its last nine games since the calendar turned to February.
The Kaws will face Big East rival Silver Lake on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Sabetha High School in the Sub-State Championship game.
