The Jackson Heights Cobras wrapped up the regular season on Friday night with a win at home over Jefferson County North 53-0.
The top ranked Cobras (8-0) scored two touchdowns in the first 90 seconds of the first quarter and never looked back.
After JCN (7-1) went three-and-out on their first possession of the game, the Cobras would score on their first offensive play on a 38-yard run from quarterback Drake Mellies.
The Chargers would fumble the ensuing kickoff with Kolby Bowhay picking up the scoop-and-score to make it 13-0 in the blink of an eye.
Jackson Heights would lead 27-0 after the first quarter and 39-0 at halftime. They would get two more touchdowns in the third quarter to make it 53-0 to force a running clock the rest of the game.
Mellies had over 200 rushing yards in the first half and finished with 220 in the game to go along with nearly 100 passing yards with six total touchdowns (5 rush, 1 pass).
Jackson Heights finished with over 350 yards of total offense while JCN was held to under 80 yards of offense.
With the win, Jackson Heights secured both the 1A #3 district title along with the Northeast Kansas League title for the second straight season. It's also the first time in school history that the Cobras posted back-to-back undefeated regular seasons.
JCN finishes runner-up in the district as both teams will host playoff games in week nine.
