Hiawatha Post 66 moved on to the 10:30 AM Match-up after losing to Marysville 7-4 in the continuation of the suspended game from last night. Hiawatha proceeded to play Norton Post 63 and win by a close score of 5-1, but was in total control all the way through.

Hiawatha Post 66 got on the board early with a sacrifice fly by Aden Grathwohl to score Micah Oldham, who led off the inning with a single. Hiawatha would manage to put three on in the second, but after a pick-off on first, the top of the inning ended abruptly.

Two runs would come and score in the third for Hiawatha with an RBI Single by Aden Grathwohl and an RBI double by Tagen Diller to score Grathwohl. One more run would be added in both the fourth and fifth to give Hiawatha a 5-0.

While Hiawatha was finding success offensively, Norton Post 63 could not. Gannon Becker retired the first ten batters he faced, not allowing the first runner to reach until the fourth inning. The first runner to even reach scoring position didn't come up for Norton until the fifth inning, which Norton would wind up forcing into a 5-3 double play.

Norton Post 63 would add just one run off one hit in the sixth inning and would be left to that small production for the night. The game would end with a scoreless seventh for both teams, 5-1. Hiawatha would end with five runs, nine hits, one error, and seven left on base.

The McDonald's in Hiawatha and Seneca player of the game went to Gannon Becker after his terrific pitching performance. Becker went all seven innings, snagging five strikeouts, only allowing one hit with one run, and only walking two batters.

Hiawatha will now play at 8:30 PM tonight against Iola.

Coverage will be on 103.9 KNZA.
