The Axtell boys basketball team advanced to the Class 1A-II state tournament next week in Colby as they won their sub-state title game on Saturday night in Tescott over St. Johns-Tipton 76-58. 

The Eagles dominated their two opponents in the sub-state tournament also defeating Linn in the semifinals 65-41. 

Axtell is the #3 ranked team in 1A-II behind only Cunningham and Logan/Palco and have a record of 21-1 with 19 straight wins. 

The Eagles only loss of the season was against Auburn (NE) back in Dec. at the Lourdes Catholic Holiday Classic. 

They swept the Twin Valley League mid-season tournament and regular season titles this season. 

They won 22 games last season which was a school record and finished third place at the state tournament defeating Dighton in that final game 80-72. 

Some of these seniors for the Eagles have been part of the four straight football titles and also the last two track and field titles. 

Impressive doesn't even begin to describe what Axtell sports has been like over the last few years and they will look to continue this run in Colby next week.
