The Silver Lake boys basketball team defeated Sabetha on Saturday night 49-45 advancing to the Class 3A state tournament in Hutchinson.
The two teams played in late Jan. in which the Eagles won by two points in overtime.
The Eagles got out to a hot start going on a 15-0 run in the first quarter as they would lead the Bluejays 18-6 at the end of the quarter.
Sabetha would turn it on in the second quarter on both ends of the floor as they would outscore the Eagles 16-7 to get within 25-22 at halftime.
The two teams would trade blows the entire second half but in the end it was the Eagles who were able to hold on for the win.
Sabetha had an opportunity down three points with six seconds left with a chance to send the game to overtime but a turnover gave the ball back to the Eagles, and they were able to knock down a free throw to get it to that four point final margin.
Dayne Johnson hit that clutch free throw in the final seconds and finished with 13 points going 7-of-8 at the line. Brody Deiter ended with 12 points while Jared Johnson also finishing with 12 points.
Sabetha's season ends with a record of 13-10 and they were led in the game by Mitchel Kramer with 15 points while Kyler Wenger finished with 12 points and LT Thomas with 10 points.
The Silver Lake boys join the defending champion girls squad in Hutchinson. It is the first time in Silver Lake history that the boys and girls basketball teams have made the state tournament in the same season.
