Valley Falls and Horton Split Final DVL Meeting

 In a first and last meeting this season and a future preview of Northeast Kansas League opponents, it was a pair of thrilling games in Horton Friday as the Lady Chargers won in overtime and the Dragon boys won the final quarter for their fourth consecutive victory.  The double header was plagued by a combined 129 free throws because of 100 total fouls!  

GIRLS:  Horton 41, Valley Falls 40 in Overtime
Horton had an early 9-4 advantage which turned out to be the biggest margin in this game.  Valley Falls went on an 8-0 run and led 22-20 at halftime, before Horton retook a two-point-lead after three quarters.  The teams struggled by missing 7 straight free throws to open the fourth quarter before Anna Coleman hit one for Valley Falls and Mariah Hisle answered with one for Horton in the final :30 of regulation.  Horton caused a turnovers but didn't get off a shot before time expired with the score knotted at 36.  Both teams had 25 turnovers and combined for 57 free throws with Valley hitting 15 of 27 and Horton 14 of 30.
Hisle led all scorers with 14 points while Horton got 9 from their lone senior, Leah Murata, in her final home game.  Murata also scored the first 6 points of the contest and hit a big three in the final quarter.  Molly Tillery hit the lone Dragons trey to tie the game in the final stanza and scored 7 points while Coleman had 8 to pace the visitors.  
Valley Falls turned over the ball in the final :10 of overtime and Horton (11-8, 9-4 DVL) held on for the  win.  Valley Falls fell to 11-7 with their first loss in four games and has two DVL contests remaining at home against Pleasant Ridge and McLouth.      

 BOYS: Valley Falls 70, Horton 61
A back and forth battle that was tied 52 apiece entering the fourth quarter.  This game featured tons (52) of fouls and a total of 72 free throws.  Valley Falls made 26 of 41, including junior, Luke Burns who was 13 of 14 at the foul-line and scored 27 points.  Burns also hit a pair of trifecta's after the Dragons fell down by 5 points in the second quarter and Valley led 36-34 at the break.  
Gates Glassel returned from injury and added 13 second half points, which included a couple treys and five free throws in the fourth quarter.  Ben Gantz was also in double-figures with 11 and Max Badgett had all 8 of his in the first quarter as the Dragons (14-4) jumped to a 19-13 lead.  
Horton got a monster game from Trey Dishon with a career high 29 points and Dakota Bayles added 10.  Evan Burke scored 8 as one of three seniors playing their final home game and last contest in the Delaware Valley League for the (9-10) Chargers.
