K-Preps Updated Football Rankings Heading into Sectional Round Games

K-Preps have released their latest rankings heading into the Sectional round playoff games this week with plenty of area teams still alive. 

Axtell (10-0) is still the top ranked team in 8M-II as they beat Hutchinson-Central Christian last week 52-6 for their 36th straight win. Brandon Schemelzle scored twice for the Eagles and nabbed three interceptions on defense. 

Frankfort (8-2) vaults back into the rankings this week and are #3 in 8M-II after they blasted a quality Canton-Galva squad last week 66-28. Game was tied at halftime but the Wildcats outscored Canton-Galva 44-6 in the second half. Wes Anderson threw for 355 yards and four touchdowns. 

Jefferson County North (9-1) is back in the rankings at #5 in Class 1A after defeating Centralia last week 16-0. Ethan and Grady Noll combined for over 200 rushing yards against the Panthers with Ethan scoring the lone two touchdowns. The win for the Chargers snapped a six-game losing streak against Centralia. 

Nemaha Central (10-0) gave up their first points since week one against Holton as Riley County scored the first touchdown of the game last week against the Thunder. It didn't take long for Nemaha Central to put Riley County away with a 55-13 win. The defending state champs have won 23 games in a row. 

Sabetha (9-1) ran all over Silver Lake in their playoff win last week 45-34. There was over 1,000 total yards combined between the two teams. The Bluejays ran for over 500 yards and Colin Menold led the way with 360 yards and three touchdowns. His touchdown runs were from 43, 48, and 52 yards. 

Atchison (10-0) move up from #5 to #3 in Class 4A this week after defeating Eudora last week 50-27. The Phoenix offense has been one of the best in the state all season and they had over 500 yards of offense against the Cardinals. It's the first 10-win season for Atchison since 2006. 

The Sectional round games this week - #5 Osborne at #1 Axtell, #3 Frankfort at Hanover, Olpe at #5 Jefferson County North, Osage City at #1 Nemaha Central, Humboldt at #4 Sabetha, and #2 Tonganoxie at #3 Atchison.
