State Cross County Meet Headlines

The 2023 State Cross County Meets were held on Saturday with 1A, 2A, and 4A held in Wamego while 3A, 5A, and 6A were held in Lawrence. 

1A Girls: Centralia finished in 10th place and were led by Meleah Talley who finished in 27th place while Keelyn Rempe finished in 41st place. Cora Thompson finished in 51st place. 

Other notable finishes include Gracie Grable of Troy finishing in 32nd place and Laela Idol of Doniphan West finishing in 38th place. Troy also had Macy Grable who finished in 47th place. 

1A Boys: Axtell posted a fifth place finish with Quinter, Ness City, St. Johns-Tipton, and Pratt-Skyline finishing ahead of the Eagles. Grady Buessing led Axtell with a 12th place finish while Gavin Shaughnessy finished in 19th place. 

Other notable finishes included Centralia's Kris Fulkerson who finished in 24th place while Clifton-Clyde's Cohen Girard finished in 27th place. 

2A Girls: Oskaloosa posted a fourth place finish behind Sacred Heart, Remington, and Sterling. The Bears were led by Katelyn Vogel who finished in 12th place while Emma Vogel finished 20th. Taylor Peterson finished 41st while Katie Peterson finished in 55th place. 

Valley Falls finished in 10th place out of the 12 team field and were led by Brooklyn Schmelzle who finished in 21st place. Maddison Conner finished in 66th place while Renay Myers finished in 69th place. 

Other notable finishes included Alexis Blackard of Pleasant Ridge in 46th place and Bailey Jenkins of Jefferson County North in 50th place. 

2A Boys: Jefferson County North finished in ninth place and were led by Isaac Kane who finished in 18th place while Lucas Meredith finished in 20th place. 

Pleasant Ridge finished in 11th place out of the 12 team field and were led by Hank Lance who finished in 67th place while Andrew Stewart finished in 71st place. 

Other notable finishes was from Nate Linck of Jackson Heights who finished in 57th place, Horton's Cooper Wischropp finished in 64th place, and Oskaloosa's Federico Boccolari finished in 68th place. 

3A Girls: Nemaha Central's Madilyn Mosteller posted a top-20 finish tallying a 17th place finish. Hiawatha's Pauly Rockey finished in 28th place and Aubrey Phillips of Jefferson West finished in 29th place. Also, Hailey Nordhus of Nemaha Central finished in 39th place. 

3A Boys: Marysville posted a fourth place finish behind Wichita Trinity, SE of Saline, and Holcomb while Nemaha Central finished in fifth place. 

Marysville was led by Silas Miller who finished in 16th place, Mason Rader finished in 39th place, and Nathan Miller finished in 45th place. The Thunder were led by John Langill who finished in sixth place, Bob Langill finished in 46th place, and Harry Langill finished in 54th place. 

Other notable finishes included Jordan Hodge of Hiawatha finishing in 13th place, Charlie Lukert of Sabetha in 26th place, Dominick Schnider of Royal Valley in 27th place, and Kalvin Evans of Sabetha in 36th place. 

4A Girls: Holton's Eva Cortes closed out her junior season with a top-10 finish as she posted an eighth place. Maya Doney also had a strong weekend for the Wildcats as she finished in 18th place.
