K-Preps have dropped their first football rankings of the season as we're just days out from week one matchups.

No surprise with Axtell holding the top spot in 8M-II as they have won the last two state titles and enter this season on a 26-game winning streak.

Osborne, Victoria, Dighton, and Hanover follow Axtell to round out the top five. Hanover went 11-0 back in 2020 but have combined for an 11-9 record the last two seasons.

Plenty of buzz entering the season in Class 2A with the defending champs Nemaha Central ranked #1 followed by Sabetha at #2.

The Thunder went 13-0 en route to their second football title last season, the first since 2019. They lost some quality talent but plenty of faces return which will give them a shot to repeat.

The Bluejays might have their best squad since they won back-to-back 3A titles in 2017 and 2018. They could arguably have the best offensive line in the state in 2A along with 20+ seniors back.

Nemaha Central and Sabetha last season both had two of the top scoring defenses along with two of the top rushing attacks.

The Bluejays went 9-3 and made it to the sub-state round with their lone three losses to Nemaha Central (x2) and Holton.

Top ranked teams in each class entering season:

6A: Gardner-Edgerton (finished 9-4 in 2022)
5A: Mill Valley (have won four straight titles)
4A: Bishop Miege (defending champs - hold 11 football titles which is the all-time KS record)
3A: Andale (currently hold nation's longest winning streak at 51 + have won 4 straight titles)
2A: NEMAHA CENTRAL
1A: St. Marys (defending champs)
8M-I: Leoti-Wichita Co. (defending champs)
8M-II: AXTELL
6M: Cunningham (defending champs)
