Atchison, Marysville & St. Marys Academy Win Tuesday Night Games at Thunder Classic

The 2023 Thunder Classic continued play on Tuesday night with a triple-header as it was Atchison, Marysville and St. Marys Academy picking up wins. 

Jackson Heights 21, Atchison 74 

Atchison improves to 8-1 overall with the win over the Cobras. The #5 ranked team in 4A showed out as they jumped out to a 10-point first quarter lead and never looked back. 

Jace Richards was a force inside for the Phoenix as he finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Trey Carter added 12 and Xiomar Hernandez finished with nine. 

Jackson Heights dropped to 3-7 after the loss and was led by Landon Wahquahboshkuk with eight points, all in the second half. 

Hiawatha 38, Marysville 49

This game was hard fought and low scoring until the fourth quarter. Marysville led by three after one quarter and five at halftime. 

The two teams combined for 12 total points in the third quarter before they exploded for 40 combined points in the fourth quarter. 

The Bulldogs have won eight straight and are 9-1 overall and ranked #8 in 3A. Jack Lauer led the way for Marysville with 20 points. 

The Redhawks have lost five in a row and fall to 2-9 overall. Cameron Boswell led the way for Hiawatha with 13 points while Ashton Rockey added nine points and seven rebounds. 

St. Marys Academy 53, Nemaha Central 39

The real difference in this game appeared to be the third quarter. The Crusaders built a 22-15 halftime lead but scored the first 12 points of the third quarter. 

That 12-0 run gave St. Marys Academy a 19-point lead and they were able to hold off the Thunder's late rally. 

Lewis Garland led the way for the now 8-2 Crusaders with 17 points and five rebounds while they also got 13 points from Michael Treacy. 

The Thunder had their three-game winning streak come to an end as they're now 5-5 overall. They got 16 points and six rebounds from Abe Hilbert. 

Pool play continues on Thursday as Jackson Heights will play Nemaha Central at 4:30. Marysville will take on St. Marys and 6:00 and Atchison will square off against St. Marys Academy at 7:30.
