GIRLS = Hiawatha 45, Holton 30

The Hiawatha girls led from start to finish and pulled away from a 17-14 halftime lead to post their first Big 7 League win. The Redhawks hit nine three-pointers including five from Abby Elffner who scored 25 points and scored 10 of those points as Hiawatha stretched the margin late. Darcy Lierz added 12 points as the Hiawatha girls improved to 3-2 overall on the season.

Holton was playing without four top varsity players including three of their starters. They had 22 turnovers in the game and managed only 19 points in the first three quarters. Tiara Dodd scored 12, Brooke Flewelling added 9 and Kaiya Taylor added six, including the only trey for the Wildcats in the final minutes. Holton drops to 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in league play.

BOYS = Holton 59, Hiawatha 47

The Holton boys scored the first 12 points of the game and that proved to be the difference even though the Wildcats were up by 26 points in the second half before going to their bench. Hiawatha didn't score in the first five minutes and had just 10 total points at halftime trailing 27-10.

The Wildcats had eight players score in a balanced attack led by Matt Lierz with 13 and Tyson Snyder 11. Big help came off the bench in the form of 9 points from Brayden Peak, 8 from Bodie Dillon is his first varsity action of the year and 7 points from Kobe Black. Holton made four triples and went 10-13 from the foul-line improving to 4-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Big 7.

Hiawatha used a 23-point fourth quarter to close the final margin down the stretch and got 17 points off the bench from Zachary Cappleman while Cameron Boswell hit four trifecta's and added 16 points. Ashton Rockey added five in the final period including one of six three-pointers for the Redhawks who drop to 1-4 on the season and couldn't find points inside the paint.

Hiawatha will travel to play Riverside Tuesday while Holton has winter homecoming against Jeff West in the final games before the Christmas break.
