It’s still very early in the season and teams are still adjusting to the brand new 2022-23 high school basketball season. However, some teams are already playing in mid-season form. Here is a look at some of the area teams that made the Week 2 rankings from the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association.

In the Class 3A girls’ poll, Nemaha Central (3-0) moved up one spot to number four in the state after winning at Holton 52-43 last Friday.

Jackson Heights (2-0) defeated Pleasant Ridge on the road last Friday and moved up two spots to number two in the newest Class 2A poll.

Despite Centralia (2-1) winning both of their games last week, the Panthers have actually dropped two spots in the rankings to number six in the Class 1A-D1 poll. Centralia defeated Cair Paravel 55-14 at home last Tuesday and Hiawatha at home last Friday 43-38.

Clifton-Clyde (4-0) also slid in the Class 1A-D1 poll with their three wins down to the number seven spot. Last Tuesday, they defeated Rock Hills 47-28. They followed that up with wins against Pike Valley 62-31 and against Washington County 55-40.

Frankfort (4-0) was victorious in the Wabaunsee Tournament last week beating Manhattan Chief 59-15, Wabaunsee 52-29 and Northern Heights 49-17. The Wildcats also fell in the rankings, though, as they move down one spot to number ten in the rankings.

In Class 1A-D2, Hanover (2-0) remains atop the poll after a pair of dominant wins against St. Xavier (79-21) and Wetmore (96-10).

In the 3A boys’ poll, Sabetha (3-0) moved up two spots to the second-ranked team in the state. They defeated 4A #8 Wamego 55-37 last Tuesday night and stayed hot with a victory at Royal Valley 41-23 last Friday.

In the Class 1A-D1 boys’ poll, Centralia (2-1) got a pair of victories last week. The Panthers defeated Cair Paravel 59-34 last Tuesday, and then defeated Hiawatha 50-49 last Friday. These two performances were good enough to move Centralia two spots up to number two in the state.

Clifton-Clyde (4-1) won three straight after losing their season opener to remain number nine in the rankings. They defeated Rock Hills last Tuesday 57-28. Then, they defeated Pike Valley last Friday 85-32, followed up by a 63-32 win against Linn on Saturday.

Troy (1-2) fell four spots in the poll to number ten after suffering back-to-back losses to Hiawatha (55-53) and Blue Valley-Randolph (64-63).

In Class 1A-D2, Hanover (2-0) has dominated its first two opponents to move up to the number two spot in the rankings. The Wildcats beat St. Xavier last Tuesday 87-11, followed by a 73-35 victory last Friday.

The Axtell Eagles moved up one spot to number nine after defeating Flint Hills Christian 74-8 last Tuesday.

There will be one more poll next Tuesday before students have their Christmas break.
