Sabetha Sweeps Big 7 Doubleheader at Royal Valley

The Sabetha Bluejays won both games on Friday night at Royal Valley to jump start their play inside the Big 7. 

Girls: Sabetha 41, Royal Valley 23

The Lady Bluejays jumped out early and it was more than enough to secure the win at Royal Valley. Sabetha jumped out to a 13-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended that out to 32-13 at halftime. 

Royal Valley played much better in the third quarter as they fought back to within 12 going into the fourth quarter but the Panthers were outscored 6-0 in the final eight minutes of the game. 

Sabetha was led by Mary Lukert who was the KNZA Player of the Game as she finished with 21 points and four rebounds. 

Royal Valley was led in scoring by Alysa Ladson who finished with six points and nine rebounds while Samantha Klotz added five points and eight rebounds. 

With the win, Sabetha improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in league play while the Panthers dropped to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in league play. 

Boys: Sabetha 70, Royal Valley 64

This game was good from the opening tip as it came down to the last few possessions in the fourth quarter. 

The Bluejays were able to get enough stops and hit some clutch free throws to hold on for the win. 

Sabetha led by two at the end of the first quarter while Royal Valley led by two at halftime. Sabetha would outscore Royal Valley 44-36 in the second half. 

The Bluejays posted four players in double figures led by Matthew Garber who finished with 26 points and hit 10 of 11 free throws. Davis Rokey added 17 points, Christian McAfee finished with 12 and Marcus Bauman finished with 11. 

Royal Valley also had four players in double figures led by Preston Ross with 20 points. Treyson Murata added 15, Daniel Coleman finished with 11 and Ian Torres finished with 10. 

With the win, Sabetha improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in league play while the Panthers dropped to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in league play. 

Up next for both, Sabetha hosts Riverside on Tuesday while Royal Valley travels to Holton.
